How a visit goes

A sequence, not a treatment

A Turkish bath is not something you lie down for. It is a sequence, and it takes its time. You warm through slowly in the steam and the Jacuzzi until the skin gives. You are scrubbed on heated marble with the kese, lathered in natural bay-leaf soap, rinsed, massaged, and in the longer rituals covered in masks of Dead Sea salt, Moroccan mud, milk and honey, or rose. Then you stop, and sit, and drink something hot.
